There are a few pre-packaged items that I use during training.
LARABAR's are one of my favorite bar's to take along during my training rides.
LARABAR is a blend of unsweetened fruits, nuts and spices. Made from whole food, each flavor contains no more than nine ingredients. I can't eat too many flavors due to my limited restrictions. However, I enjoy Apple Pie, Cherry Pie. I want to try Banana Bread & Carrot Cake. They also carry a few seasonal that I really want to try, Pumpkin Pie, & Snicker-doodle.
The one plus to the LARABAR's is the consistency. They are moist & easy to eat. I can easily eat 1/2 the bar and roll it back up to save for late on my ride. The calories vary from 190-350. This is a good added fuel item to keep in the back pocket for when you need something extra.
LIQUID... This is the place I get my calories during training.

Directions
During training, for each hour of exercise activity, use at least One or Two scoops in 8 oz to 12 oz of cold water. For Triathlon: A 150 lb triathlete needs at least 200 calories per hour of activity. On an average at least 1,200 calories for a 70.3, or at least 2,400 calories for an IM distance. One scoop of Carbo-Pro provides approximately 100 calories of energy.
After I mix the CARBO-PRO with water I add 1 packet of Emergen-C to my water bottle. This adds flavor and electrolytes to the drink.
This is the ONLY liquid I take on my bike or run!
Megan' rule of thumb: (liquid only)
Bike - For every hour I have 200 calories of liquid mixed.
Run - For every 30/45 mins I have 100 calories of liquid mixed. (fills 3 runner belt bottles)
I've heard great things about CarboPro and have been wanting to try it out. Right now I train on gels and water/electrocolytes only. Question - on longer training sessions do you also drink water in addition to CarboPro?
ReplyDeleteYes... sorry I should I have mentioned that in my above writings. I DO take a bottle of water also.
